Twelve Mellor Walks book -
new edition published
The
Annual General Meeting of the Mellor Society in March 2002 sees the launch of a
new, fully revised edition of the 78 page book entitled Twelve
Mellor Walks.

The
idea for a book of walks in Mellor arose from the publication in 1992 of a
Mellor Society Boundary Walk. This
was conceived by David Ackroyd based on the old tradition of "Beating
the Bounds", when the incumbent, churchwardens and parishioners
walked the parish boundary during Ascensiontide.
The walk was of about 10.5 miles.
The following year, Geoff Heath and David Ackroyd published the
original "Twelve Mellor Walks" on behalf of the Mellor Society.
Their intention, then as now, was to introduce people to the joys
of walking in the area by describing walks varying in length between 2.5
and 10.5 miles. Points of historic interest were added to the text as were
small drawings of local scenes. The
book concludes with an appendix on the geology of the area.
The book was reprinted in 1994 but soon went out of print.
All the walks have now been revised to take account of changes in
the features described and to make some points clearer.
