Social Services North West is pleased to announce the publication of the latest edition of this very useful volume. It was first produced several years ago by NWASSA to meet a need amongst member authorities for information about the wide range of residential resources for children needing care, often of a specialised nature.
The Directory aims to give comprehensive coverage of residential establishments offering placements for children and younger people from the North West, providing they are able to consider referrals from outside their own local authority area. The Directory also includes residential resources outside the region where they are in adjacent areas, or offer other special care that is unique or insufficiently represented in similar provision within the region.
The Directory is designed to be a ready reference volume for local authority staff who are responsible for placing children and younger people in residential resources outside their own authorities. It allows them to discover basic details on resources and services. Details of establishments are only included after they have accepted our Values Statement, set out in the introduction.
The database on which this Directory is kept is registered under the Data Protection Act 1998. The information contained is only made available to bona fide officers. Every effort is made to ensure the accuracy of the information provided. As this is gained directly from the establishments and agencies themselves, we cannot guarantee the quality of the services and resources offered. The responsibility for ensuring that a placement is acceptable and appropriate rests of course with the placing authority. Officers may wish to contact the appropriate Registration and Inspection Teams for further information.
Social Services North West regularly updates and adds to the information contained in the Directory, but we cannot guarantee that is comprehensive at all times. The circulation of this volume is restricted to member authorities and is being sent to Directors during May 2001. They will be arranging for it to be held on their behalf by a nominated officer, who will facilitate access for staff who require it.
